Product price is not the landed cost
A spreadsheet price normally excludes at least some later costs. Domestic freight, service fees, optional inspection, packaging, insurance and international shipping can all be added before delivery.
- Item price and domestic shipping
- Agent or payment service fees
- Actual and volumetric parcel weight
- Rehearsal, packaging or insurance options
- Destination tax and local rules
Actual weight and volumetric weight
Actual weight is measured on a scale. Volumetric weight estimates the space a parcel occupies. Shipping lines may charge whichever value is greater, so bulky lightweight items can cost more than expected.
Shoeboxes, protective packaging and consolidated parcels change dimensions. Treat spreadsheet weight as planning context until the warehouse provides a current measurement.
Route restrictions
Batteries, electronics, liquids, magnets, fragile goods and branded items may have fewer routes or special terms. Availability also depends on the destination country and carrier. Check current official route information before paying.
A simple estimate workflow
Shortlist the product, note the estimated item weight, add realistic packaging, compare available lines for your destination and keep a buffer. Repeat the estimate after warehouse measurement and before final parcel submission.
